Back from the sleeping death

and on the road to ever better SW. After sleeping through 2 days in a completely reversed rhythm which seems to be my lowest level self-protection mechanism I'm back from the sleeping dead. Surfed a bit this afternoon and found 2 verrry nice quotes:

1 through a link from henso to news.com: "(Mitchell) Baker's departure from Netscape sheds rare light on that strangest of bedfellowships--the relationship between an open-source organization and its corporate sponsor." True, true, but we won't talk about this yet, will we?

2 through google in an alltime classic of programming research: <a href=www.acm.org">"Go To Statement Considered Harmful" by Edsger W. Dijkstra of the University of Technology in Eindhoven, NL and published in 1968 in "Communications of the ACM, Vol. 11, No. 3",pp. 147-148, where Dijkstra records a remark of Austrian computing pioneer Zemanek: "Finally I should like to record (as I remember it quite distinctly) how Heinz Zemanek at the pre-ALGOL meeting in early 1959 in Copenhagen quite explicitly expressed his doubts whether the go to statement should be treated on equal syntactic footing with the assignment statement. To a modest extent I blame myself for not having then drawn the consequences of his remark." True, true, but not all is lost. And although the goto statement is so primitive it still has a happy rarely used life in such world class language families as C and BASIC.

Now in an object system to which object would you send message "goto". Right, to object "Processor". Good night, Irene, better: Irene<-goodNight: kiss And to AOL: Maybe they should have made a press statement: "Mitchell considered harmful to AOL control".
