"I Say a Little Prayer" is a song with its music written by Burt Bacharach and its words by Hal David. It was originally done for Dionne Warwick and intended to express a woman's concern for her lover who is serving in Vietnam. It was released as the single B-side of a Previn song, the theme track for Valley of the Dolls, a movie on the base of Jacqueline Susan's novel of the same name. Surprisingly it turned into the favourite side peaking at #4 of the Billboard Hot 100.

Also quite by accident "I Say a Little Prayer" returned to the Pop and R&B Top Ten in 1968 when Aretha Franklin and her background vocalists The Sweet Inspirations sang the song for fun while pausing from rehearsing and the viability of them recording it became apparent. Franklin did record the song for her album Aretha Now and as a single B-side. When its A-side companion The House That Jack Built written by Bobby Lance and Fran Robbins reached its peak at #6 (#2 R&B) our little song here went up to #10 (#3 R&B). As of today it counts 22.966.738 views for its more official and 19.733.940 views for its 1970 Live TV version whereas the Warwick version still counts nearly 3 million. Now ain't that beautiful?

You might also want to check out Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head, a song that won an Academy Award as Best Song for Western movie Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. That just is how solace comes into the world and a more than worthy continuation of the thing started off by Abel Meeropol, Rezső Seress and Eleanora Fagan in the 30ies and 40ies.
