Online in Shanghai

Online's cool here in the shanghai hotel, although it's dial up. I have nearly lost the feeling for what it was to be online in such an environment. The responsible guy in the hotel business center tells me that ADSL is growing rapidly and they'll be getting it any time soon. Well, I do not intend to spend lots of time on the net anyway as there are so many rl things to take in.

We had a drink today in the roof garden of this cool building, the Shanghai Peace PalaceHotel. We've been in a supermarket, a hairdresser's, a traditional garden, a snack restaurant...., life in the fast lane.

Actually I'm not serious, the Peace Hotel is nice but old fashioned in comparison and from the Twenties. This city is so big and crazy, it's got 17 million inhabitants, it's very loud and fast. I'm sure it has got unfriendly sides. We've seen non so far and probably will not, no wonder in one an a half days past and 2 and a half in the future.

The overall impression is the world is integrating so fast and furiously and even more so than we expected. More about that ambigous matter later.

And finally: 10 minutes ago I have seen Dr. Haider on Chinese TV twice in a row: News in Chinese that I could not understand and Shanghai News at Ten in inglese where they said something like "Iraqi President Saddam Hussein told a visiting Austrian politician ......". Funny stuff, really.

Re: Online in Shanghai

wow, slauti

i envy you for your current location. never made it to the "mainland".

i am currently reading about china's prehistory. haven't done this for years. i have missed the fact, that the former legendary first dynasty (Xia) is archeologically already located . but all this is situated in the north, of course, at the yellow river, the so called "erlitou" culture.

but there also interesting findings of early yangtzi cultures.

bring me plz some pre-han stuff (just kidding)

have a wonderful stay and "eat slowly" (that's what they say in mandarin for "guten appetit", and there is a lot good stuff to digest)
