Often wrong, never in doubt!

lngr pointed me to Rich Skrenta's blog and his story about Spice Girl VCs.

Mr. Skrenta has Marc Andreesen on his blog roll. Funny how some things never change. Marc is still one of the stupidest persons in the internet world. Holding out well.

and eric bina's biography has to fear deletion policy at wpedia.

nice annotation! Thx.

WP: Web browsers were the killer applications of the 1990s because they were the first programs to provide a multimedia graphical user interface to the Internet's burgeoning wealth of distributed information services (formerly limited to applications such as FTP, Usenet and Gopher).

The truth is, that the only killer things in Mosaic were inline images (not yet specified, MA and EB not waiting for them to be specified) and its "cross-platformness" not excluding a then still dirtly little thing by the name of "Windows". In all other respects it was a simple, rather trivial piece of SW that could parse primitive markup language and communicate via maybe too simple protocols. It contained a few clever hacks and led to a short lived subindustry that simply does not exist anymore today.

That's me again with fundamentals vs. history. Unsympathetic.

I don't see the deletion threat. It's a stub, but IMHO that doesn't mean it's on jeopardy to disappear...?

Besides

Both of them deserve wp entries, in many languages, but both of them are far and out not big heroes. As I said, doing a browser for Windows also and adding inline images, getting rich and arrogant from it and failing is not what impresses me a lot. I have not seen further important contributions to the web from either of them.

Without early addition of inline graphics the web would not have become the media and commercial success that fast, but actually, inline graphics were no invention then, save maybe introducing them into the world of super computing at NCSA. My, my.
