A Long Chess Game

More than a year ago, Brendan Eich inserted an interesting posting on the lambda the ultimate languages blog. By the way, that whole thread is worth a thorough read.

Eich is right, it is a very long and slow chess game indeed. Chess though, I should mention, is also a weak and slightly distorting model in that it contains to little of what in everyday speech we call luck.

Before Ajax our Javascript decision here did smell of Netscape 2 clients and LiveWire on the server side. Stenchy. But then the universe turned on it heels, grease production galore kicked in and off we go.

I haven't been in this topic for a while now, but got a surprising impulse yesterday when henso explained interesting details about Google v8 that had not more than braided me before. Surfed around a bit, thought about a couple of guys like Dan Ingalls, Anders Hejlsberg, James Gosling, Roberto Ierusalimschy and did stumble upon this page that was kinda very oulde style fun to play with.
