15.11.2007, 07:09 Often wrong, never in doubt! lngr pointed me to Rich Skrenta's blog and his story about Spice Girl VCs. Mr. Skrenta has Marc Andreesen on his blog roll. Funny how some things never change. Marc is still one of the stupidest persons in the internet world. Holding out well.

nice annotation! Thx.
WP: Web browsers were the killer applications of the 1990s because they were the first programs to provide a multimedia graphical user interface to the Internet's burgeoning wealth of distributed information services (formerly limited to applications such as FTP, Usenet and Gopher). The truth is, that the only killer things in Mosaic were inline images (not yet specified and MA and EB not waiting for then to be specified) and its "cross-platformness" not excluding a them still dirtly little thing name of "Windows". In all other respects it was a simple, rather trivial piece of SW that could parse primitive markup language and communicate via to simple protocols. It contained a few clever hacks and led to a shortlived industry that simply does not exist anymore today. That's me again with fundamentals vs. history. Unsympathetic. ... plink

I don't see the deletion threat. It's a stub, but IMHO that doesn't mean it's on jeopardy to disappear...?

As I said, doing a browser for Windows also and adding inline images, getting rich and arrogant from it and failing is not what impresses me a lot. I have not seen further important contributions to the web from neither of them.
Without early addition of inline graphics the web would not have become media and commercial success that fast, but actually, inline graphics were zero invention then, save maybe introducing them into the world of super computing at NCSA. My, my. ... plink ... answer! |
