as Brittany maybe but more what they really look like these days, citizens of the european union and living mostly a bit east of us. Of course they look different if they are in a musical band while playing the ost-klub or even a musikvereinssaal.

Bei diesem guten John Paul Jones handelt es sich natürlich nicht um den heutzutage auch schon wieder den meisten nicht mehr namentlich bekannten Bassisten und Gelegenheitskeyboarder einer nicht mal so schlechten, etwas veralteten, Rockband namens Led Zeppelin. Trotzdem hat er natürlich auch einen Wikipedia Eintrag, der in Google allerdings und selbstverständlich hinter dem von JPJ/LZ kommt.

Was einen ehemaligen Sklaventransportersteuermann, der im zarten Alter von 21 zum Kapitän befördert wurde und als Vater der US-Navy gilt, für die algerische Seefahrt interessierte, war folgendes: Die Amis hatten bei ihrer Rebellion gegen das britische Vaterland nicht bedacht, dass sie durch die Unabhängigkeit den Schutz der britischen Flotte für ihre erheblichen mittelmeerischen und westafrikanischen Geschäfte verlieren würden, weswegen ihnen dann nicht wenige Schiffe und Waren einfach von den Marokkanern, Algeriern, Tunesiern und Tripolitanern - wie damals die Lybier hießen - abgenommen wurden. Und nicht nur das: Zusätzlich wurden auch nicht wenige amerikanische Bürger beiderlei Geschlechts von den maghrebinischen Arabern mit einkassiert und der dortigen Sklaverei als Produktivkapital einverleibt.

Dass die britische Flotte dem ganzen gerne und hämisch zusah und, wie viele vermuteten, diversen arabischen Partnern auch noch Tipps zukommen ließ, versteht sich von selbst.

Die Amis brauchten vergleichsweise lange, um geeignet Maßnahmen zu entwickeln. Aber auch damals waren sie in Sachen Homeland Security schon recht fit.

Yet, in spite of this aggression - real and imagined - the states never once contemplated rtaliating against the pirates. Apart from banishing three Virginan Jews on spurious charges of spying for North Africa, America remained passive.^*

Begin played central role in attempt to kill Adenauer?

Sudit's journal, which was published in a limited number of copies only, came into the possession of the Israel correspondent for the German daily, the Frankfurter Allgemeine. Excerpts from the diary passed on to Haaretz reveal that Begin knew of the plans to assassinate Adenauer, and even initiated meetings to promote the operation. Among other things, Sudit writes that he heard Begin had offered to sell his gold watch to pay for the hit after the operation ran into financial difficulties.
